Artist's
Statement
It is my belief that what we
bring into our worship ought
to be chosen intentionally to
reflect our experience of a
dynamic & loving Creator.
If we experience the Creator
as an extravagant lover, master
artist, passionate upholder
of the oppressed, & joyful
bringer of grace-filled good
news ... which I do... then
it is essential to reflect that
in the visual part of our worship
together. My hope is that each
stole will help create a sacred
environment for leaders &
worshippers.

About
Jan
Jan Laurie has
been a fabric artist for 25 years, beginning as a quilt maker.
She is interested in depicting spiritual concepts of the Christian
faith using abstract design, colour and texture.
Jan has shown her work in galleries, libraries, and liturgical
art shows including the art show at the 1997 meeting of the
General Council of the United Church of Canada. Her
work has been featured on the cover of The United Church Observer
(1992). In the Chaplains office at the Cancer Centre
for the Southern Interior (B.C., Canada) is Jan's fabric art
that visually suggests the journey from life to death and
to life beyond death. She has also made many stoles for congregations
giving gifts to their clergy, for the President of B.C. Conference
(U.C. of C.) and also for her clergy husband.
